As many of you already know, the HD Youth Center has been in operation now since 1997. Our Mission Statement is: With the help of Christ, we will feed the hungry and provide a safe place for the children. But since the flood of 2008, in which we lost our rented building and a considerable amount of equipment, we have been denied the opportunity to carry out this mission 100%. We had little money, but however, we have used a large portion toward purchasing a building to get back in full swing. It is located at 1445 Mt. Vernon Rd., SE, Cedar Rapids, in which we are still making payments and quite a bit of renovation is needed before we can begin to use the building.
There is a strong possibility that you may or may not have made a contribution to the Youth Center, so at this time we are requesting a financial helping hand. Cedar Rapids needs the Youth Center to get the children off the street, and to feed the homeless. This will allow the homeless to go to work without being hungry.
We encourage you to go by and visit the proposed new Youth Center, at the address mentioned above. By seeing for yourself, you will agree that we need this building. And you will also understand the importance of how the Center serves the community.
For your information we have five programs that we carry out annually;
1. The Easter Egg Hunt
2. The Adventureland Trip (usually around June)
3. The Back-to-School Program (during the community school break)
4. The FREE Thanksgiving Dinner (held the Saturday before Thanksgiving)
5. The FREE Christmas Dinner, which includes the FREE Toy give-away (held the Saturday before Christmas)
