Allow me to introduce you to the H.D. Youth Center, which is a nonprofit organization in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
It was created to get kids off the street, promote a positive attitude, academic progress, and a drug-free environment. A secondary purpose is to provide a FREE hot breakfast to the homeless and those in need.
Children can come to the center after school and on weekends and have a safe environment and the opportunity to mingle, play a few games, and do their homework. Afternoon snacks are provided. Parents can go to work without the worry of the welfare of their children.
The Youth Center was founded back in 1997 when I saw a need for a safe and supervised center where area youth could go. As the ministry has grown I’ve had to rely on others to help me. Today the Center is run with 8 board members, no paid staff and about 150 volunteers over the course of a year.
The Center needs people who care about inner city youth and to help and support today’s children to become tomorrow’s leaders. I encourage you to visit or call the H.D. Youth Center any time.
The Center also wants to extend a BIG THANK YOU to all our contributors and volunteers who have worked very hard to make all of this possible.
Please consider a donation to the H.D. Youth Center at this critical time as we prepare to move into our new location. Also, please read our letter of appeal for financial support.
If you’d like to have a speaker for your church or group, call 363-5239 or email.
Best wishes,

Henry Davison
President/CEO

Volunteers please call.
We are in need of a some people who can help with our annual programs
and in getting our new location operational.
The Youth Center was founded back in 1997 when a need arose for a safe and supervised center where area youth can go. It has evolved since then and became a great organization that helps many in need. The Youth Center not only gives back to our Cedar Rapids community but also survives on the volunteers within our community. It is really amazing what happens when people come together to help others. With the countless volunteers the youth center feeds the homeless 5 times a week and puts on 5 free programs a year to help children and families with NO paid staff. These services are vital to our Cedar Rapids community and there is need for the Youth Center to do more.
We previously had our Youth Center location in a leased building at 1006 3rd St. SE. This location was completely flooded during the 2008 historical flood. We had purchased land across from this location on contract with plans to build a new ultra modern recreation center for our organization. We still have plans to build this new location, however in the short term we are working to open a youth center at 1445 Mt. Vernon Road SE in Cedar Rapids. We have purchased this property on contract and have a general contractor who with the help of many local volunteers are in the process of getting this facility ready for occupancy.
If you are interested to learn more about the H.D. Youth Center and possibly help participate with the needs of our organization, you are welcome to attend our next board meeting.
We meet on the third Monday of every month.
Next meeting is February 21, 2011.
We will be meeting in the club room at the
Hy-Vee located at 20 Wilson Ave. S.W.
We could also use the help with
people who have a valid drivers license and can drive our vehicle.
